As part of the promotional activities to publicise the excellent back catalogue of Pink Floyd under the collective banner of Why Pink Floyd, Roger Waters did an interview on Late Night With Jimmy Fallon last night in which Roger revealed at the end of that interview the Wall show will be returning to the USA!
In an interview with Rolling Stone magazine – featured on the Cover from 30th September 2011 incidentally – it was said that, “Roger Waters is making plans to bring his highly successful Wall tour back to America in 2012. The show will hit venues he missed the first time around – as well as baseball stadiums in a few big cities. ”
Roger Waters said, “There are quite a few markets we didn’t cover last time, like Austin, but we want to base the tour around Saturday nights in baseball stadiums. As we speak, I’m at my office working on an outdoor version of the show.”
The Wall Live DVD Update
I got an email reply from Roger Waters’ manager today after I was asking him about The Wall Live DVD of Roger Waters tour. The London and Greece shows were of course filmed and they are expected to go to DVD. Roger’s manager said “[the wall live DVD is] a Roger Waters work in progress and how it will be released has not been decided yet.”
So, it would seem it is still being worked on and no fixed date for its release has been scheduled in. I am not sure how long it takes to edit these live shows to the desired quality these days with all of the digital equipment available for editing and post production but perhaps it will be available for around November of 2012? But that is just pure “tabloid speculation” on my part.
Why Pink Floyd Releases
Phase 1 of the Why Pink Floyd release schedule has now happened in both the UK and USA/ROW which is a nice thing for the fans. The entire back catalogue has been re-mastered and re-released as Discovery editions which is the disc/s of the original albums but sounding better after re-mastering with modern technology. The albums are also released as a Discovery Boxset which offers better value if wanting all the remasters.
In addition to the Discovery editions of the albums, there will be Experience and Immersion editions of Dark Side of the Moon (Sep 11), Wish You Were Here (Nov 11) and The Wall (Feb 2012). Nick Mason has indicated that there is other materials available and that there will be others however Pink Floyd Management have indicated that there are no plans for any others. Who knows! They should at least release Animals and Piper as Experience and Immersion editions.
The experience editions of the albums offer the original re-mastered album as per the Discovery edition but with an additional bonus CD. The Immersion edition is a box full of 6 albums with lots of other goodies like posters and other such video etc.
