Roger Waters on Late Night with Jimmy Fallon on 2011-09-27

Roger Waters on Late Night with Jimmy Fallon

As part of the promotional activities to publicise the excellent back catalogue of Pink Floyd under the collective banner of Why Pink Floyd, Roger Waters did an interview on Late Night With Jimmy Fallon last night in which Roger revealed at the end of that interview the Wall show will be returning to the USA!

In an interview with Rolling Stone magazine – featured on the Cover from 30th September 2011 incidentally – it was said that, “Roger Waters is making plans to bring his highly successful Wall tour back to America in 2012. The show will hit venues he missed the first time around – as well as baseball stadiums in a few big cities. ”

Roger Waters said, “There are quite a few markets we didn’t cover last time, like Austin, but we want to base the tour around Saturday nights in baseball stadiums. As we speak, I’m at my office working on an outdoor version of the show.”

The Wall Live DVD Update

I got an email reply from Roger Waters’ manager today after I was asking him about The Wall Live DVD of Roger Waters tour. The London and Greece shows were of course filmed and they are expected to go to DVD. Roger’s manager said “[the wall live DVD is] a Roger Waters work in progress and how it will be released has not been decided yet.”

So, it would seem it is still being worked on and no fixed date for its release has been scheduled in. I am not sure how long it takes to edit these live shows to the desired quality these days with all of the digital equipment available for editing and post production but perhaps it will be available for around November of 2012? But that is just pure “tabloid speculation” on my part.

Why Pink Floyd Releases

Pink Floyd Dark Side of the Moon Immersion Edition 2011

Pink Floyd Dark Side of the Moon Immersion Edition 2011

Phase 1 of the Why Pink Floyd release schedule has now happened in both the UK and USA/ROW which is a nice thing for the fans. The entire back catalogue has been re-mastered and re-released as Discovery editions which is the disc/s of the original albums but sounding better after re-mastering with modern technology. The albums are also released as a Discovery Boxset which offers better value if wanting all the remasters.

In addition to the Discovery editions of the albums, there will be Experience and Immersion editions of Dark Side of the Moon (Sep 11), Wish You Were Here (Nov 11) and The Wall (Feb 2012). Nick Mason has indicated that there is other materials available and that there will be others however Pink Floyd Management have indicated that there are no plans for any others. Who knows! They should at least release Animals and Piper as Experience and Immersion editions.

The experience editions of the albums offer the original re-mastered album as per the Discovery edition but with an additional bonus CD. The Immersion edition is a box full of 6 albums with lots of other goodies like posters and other such video etc.

Kirsty Young - Desert Island Discs

Kirsty Young - Desert Island Discs

Roger Waters shall be heard on the BBC 4 radio program Desert Island Discs on 29th May 2011 at 11:15am on FM.

In the radio program, Kirsty Young asks castaways to choose eight records, a book and a luxury to take with them to the mythical desert island. I wonder what Roger will choose? Any of his own perhaps?

How to Listen?

The usual methods are available for listening. Sky TV, DAB Radio, the old wireless! and, a little more modern, you can listen online (click listen top right) or download the podcast from the rather vast archive of Desert Island Discs participants.

You may wish to search for David Gilmour from 2003 for example. Visit the BBC Radio 4 website and the podcast section in particular.

More Wall Tour Dates in 2012?

There was a very interesting article the other day with Roger Waters’ Wall Tour promoter Ron Delsener! HE mentioned in an interview with Poolstar.com that he had presented the idea to Roger Waters of touring other territories with The Wall Tour after the remaining dates on the tour.

“You never know. Now he’s got Australia, two to six shows there, maybe more. And so, if they go to Australia, the question is where do they go from there? That’s a question for (tour manager) Andrew Zweck. Do they do Japan? I don’t know if Floyd was ever big there. That’s a question mark. Singapore? Where do you go from Singapore? China? I don’t think so. So it’s very tricky to take all that stuff over there and it’s huge for just six to 10 shows. So they’re trying to ascertain right now whether they should continue through the fall of 2011 or perhaps 2012. That’s up in the air right now.

“Meanwhile, I’ve presented something that is currently very sketchy – to return to markets, very few, for a one-night-only encore performance and/or secondary markets where he hasn’t played. We’ve mapped out a little tour about that and it’s up to Roger whether he’s in the mood or if it’s financially feasible to make this thing work on the secondary markets where the ticket prices have to be a little lower. Especially with this economy. It’s hard to get a $250 ticket in Albany.”

Take a read of the article here and feel free to leave a comment below about where you would like him to play!
